Leslie Harrell, D.O., Joins UAMS as Radiation Oncologist

Harrell, who previously served as a radiation oncologist in Oklahoma City, specializes in pediatric cancer, breast cancer and cancers of the central nervous system.

She is a graduate of the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth and completed her internship in internal medicine at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Harrell completed her residency in radiation oncology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, and her fellowship in proton and pediatric radiation oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

She uses advanced radiation treatments to target tumors and reduce radiation exposure to surrounding organs and tissues. Treatments include intensity-modulated radiation therapy, high-dose rate brachytherapy and proton therapy, a noninvasive cancer treatment that uses a beam of protons (the subatomic particle found in the nucleus of every atom) to destroy cancer cells.
