IT Security Alert: Update Now To Protect your iPhones and Smart Devices
| Apple has released an emergency update for iPhones, iPads and Watches to patch a security vulnerability under active attack by hackers. The security updates are iOS 14.4.2 and iPadOS 14.4.2, which also covers a patch to older devices as iOS 12.5.2. watchOS also updates to 7.3.3.
UAMS IT recommends all vulnerable devices be updated. On the iPhone and iPad, go to Settings and then to General > Software Update. For the Apple Watch, go into the Apple Watch app.
Apple said the vulnerability, discovered by security researchers at Google’s Project Zero, may have been “actively exploited” by hackers. The bug is found in the browser engine that powers the Safari browser across all Apple devices. The hacker can take control of your device and exploit your personal information.
Android devices are not affected by this exploit, however they recently experienced severe vulnerabilities as well. Keep all of your smart phones and devices patched to the latest updated versions in order to prevent exploitations and protect your privacy.
