UAMS Chancellor Named Rotary’s Business Professional of the Year
With tributes from his colleagues in education and business, I. Dodd Wilson, M.D., was named 2009 Business & Professional Leader of the Year today by The Rotary Club of Little Rock.
The award is given annually by the service club to honor “one who is successful in business or their profession and has made substantial contributions to the growth of our community and state.”

Cooks Tour Events Raise Funds for Patient Services
About 200 people turned out for the April 17 Cooks Tour Patrons’ Cocktail Buffet, while about 500 guests attended the tour of homes April 19. The events raised about $50,000 for the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Auxiliary at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Maria Furcron and Jenny Moss Brungart were co-chairwomen.
UAMS Sees Ophthalmic Med Techs Stature Raised
For a profession listed as one of the fastest growing in the nation, Suzanne Hansen, chairman of the UAMS ophthalmic medical technology program says it sometimes struggles to recruit students.
“Many people still are not aware of the profession,” said Hansen, who leads the program in the UAMS College of Health Related Professions. It’s one of only five in the United States accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs.
