UAMS Endowment Awards Research Grants

By todd

Several scientists at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) have received new seed grants thanks to a research endowment created by generous donors.

The UAMS Foundation Fund Board recently awarded nine internal research grants to faculty scientists, using the annual income from the UAMS Medical Research Endowment.

Since the inception of the Medical Research Endowment Awards in 1982, 188 investigators have received awards totaling $1.5 million. The awards are valuable seed grants, allowing individual researchers or teams to collect preliminary data and form hypotheses before seeking major research grants. In this way, the awards are vital bridges between the researchers’ initial ideas and major discoveries. Eighty-three Medical Research Endowment Award recipients, with awards totaling $633,751, have generated extramural funding at UAMS of $30 million through fiscal year 2002.
