UAMS Medicine Dean to Hold New Post in Institute of Medicine

LITTLE ROCK – Dean E. Albert Reece, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., of the College of Medicine of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will be the next chair of the section on pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

Reece is the only Arkansas member of the prestigious Institute of Medicine. The institute’s mission is to advance and disseminate scientific knowledge to improve human health. It is part of the National Academies, a consortium of research advisory groups that also includes the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Research Council. The institute’s members are divided into 12 sections according to medical disciplines.

Reece will become chair July 1 following a two-year term as vice-chair. He is a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine and vice chancellor of UAMS. Before coming to UAMS in 2001, he was the Abraham Roth Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He was also director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine there.
