Free UAMS Workshop, Lunch for Alzheimer’s Disease Caregivers Sept. 13
| LITTLE ROCK – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will hold the second annual Alzheimer’s Disease Center Family Information Day Sat., Sept. 13, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., at its Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging.
The workshop will cover communication issues, nutrition, medication, and the latest research. It will follow the Alzheimer’s Arkansas Walk at 8:15 a.m. at the Little Rock Zoo. Free lunch and parking will be available at the workshop. To register for the workshop, call Tanya Terry at (501) 296-1892.
A session entitled “The ADC Playhouse Presents…” will answer common questions about caring for persons with Alzheimer’s disease. The mini-drama will star Robin Armstrong of Little Rock, who with her sister, Terri Jolly of Carollton, Texas, established the Sam and Hazel Reynolds Endowment for End of Life Education at UAMS in memory of their parents.
Alzheimer’s disease expert John C. Morris, M.D., will discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s disease research. Morris is the principal investigator of the Alzheimer Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and editor-in-chief of Alzheimer’s Disease and Associated Disorders.
Speakers also will include the director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Center at UAMS, Cornelia Beck, Ph.D., R.N.; Delbra Caradine, M.D., director of the Reynolds Senior Health Center HouseCall Program; Raymon B. Harvey, an expert on elder and disability law and patient privacy issues; and Elaine Souder, Ph.D., R.N., leader of the UAMS ADC Education Core.
