Chernoff is a professor of geriatrics in the College of Medicine and a professor of health behavior and health education in the College of Public Health. She also is director of the Arkansas Geriatric Education Center and director of education at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging at UAMS. She also serves as associate director for education at the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center within the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. She is a fellow and charter member of the American Dietetic Association, a charter member of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and a member of the Gerontologic Society of America.

Chernoff received a bachelor of science in nutrition from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and completed a dietetic internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. She earned a Master of Science and a Master of Education – both in nutrition – at Columbia University in New York and a Doctor of Philosophy in health professions education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
