UAMS Surgeon to Give Breast Cancer Update March 8 at Air Force Base
| JACKSONVILLE – V. Suzanne Klimberg, M.D., the director of the Breast Cancer Program of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will present “Breast Cancer Update” at 11:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the Little Rock Air Force Base. The lecture will be part of the Annual Celebration of Women, sponsored by the Little Rock Air Force Base Federal Women’s Committee, and will be open to military and civil service personnel only. Klimberg is a professor of surgery and pathology and director of the Division of Breast Surgical Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine. She has received numerous teaching awards at UAMS, has authored more than 100 scientific publications, and has received federal funding in basic and clinical research. In 1997, Klimberg helped write the Arkansas Breast Cancer Act that now provides $4 million annually for breast cancer research and care for Arkansas citizens. In 2001, she was appointed to the national Breast Health Advisory Council of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Klimberg received her medical degree and completed a residency in general surgery and a clinical fellowship in oncology at the University of Florida. She also served a fellowship in disease of the breast at UAMS.
