Cookbook to Benefit UAMS’ Tiniest Patients

By todd

LITTLE ROCK — Just in time for holiday shopping, the nurses of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) neonatal intensive care unit have put together a cookbook to benefit the medical center’s tiniest patients.

“Out of the Mouths of Babes” features 400 recipes collected from the nursery staff. These tried-and-true dishes include everything from main dishes and appetizers to breads and desserts. The book also features original artwork by UAMS nurse Joyce Yuratich, R.N., and her daughter, Heather.

Price for this one-of-a-kind cookbook is $20, including shipping and handling. All proceeds will be used to purchase equipment necessary to care for premature infants — some weighing less than two pounds — in the UAMS neonatal intensive care unit.

To purchase a cookbook, call (501) 686-6363. Payment can be made by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, check or cash.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, five centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has about 2,320 students and 690 residents and is the state’s largest public employer with almost 9,000 employees. UAMS and its affiliates have an economic impact in Arkansas of $4.3 billion a year.

UAMS centers of excellence are the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy and Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute.
