UAMS Use of Technology Recognized as ‘Most Wired’
| LITTLE ROCK – For the fifth time in eight years, the Hospitals & Health Networks magazine of the American Hospital Association publication has named the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center as one of the “100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems” for its use of technology. Recent information technology (IT) projects at UAMS include creation of Web portals for employees and for physicians seeking to refer patients to UAMS. The portals provide quick access to the services needed most, such as reviewing test results, reviewing schedules and requesting patient appointments. “We are pleased to be recognized for the value and support our information technology group delivers to our hospital, administration and business,” said Kari Cassel, UAMS chief information officer. “Our ongoing mission is to cost-effectively improve safety, quality and efficiency at UAMS in a way that helps our patients and employees.” More than 1,200 hospitals and health systems – roughly 20 percent of the nation’s hospitals – are represented in the 541 surveys completed by providers for the list. UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has about 2,320 students and 690 medical residents.
