Byrd, Franks Join UAMS
| LITTLE ROCK – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Office of Communications and Marketing has hired directors to lead its Web Center and clinical communications.
Lannie Byrd has joined the office as director of the UAMS Web Center, while Kate Franks has been named director of clinical communications.
Byrd oversees UAMS Web strategy and is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the UAMS family of Web sites. He is a West Memphis native and previously was online manager for the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Franks provides internal communications for about 3,200 UAMS hospital and clinic employees and helps implement strategic initiatives. She is a Helena-West Helena native and previously worked in Alltel’s corporate communications office in Little Rock for 20 years.
UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a new 540,000-square-foot hospital, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has 2,652 students and 733 medical residents. Its centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.
