American Cancer Society Training Grant Supports Clinical Oncology Social Work
| Sept. 17, 2009 | Thanks to a grant from the American Cancer Society, master’s level social work students will continue to receive hands-on training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
The American Cancer Society Midwest Division – Kate Mortenson Oncology Social Work Training Grant of $12,000 was presented to the Clinical Oncology Social Work Department at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. It is the 14th year for the department to receive this funding.
“This gift was made in honor of Kate Mortenson, who has a personal interest in the needs of children with a parent who has been diagnosed with cancer. In view of this generous gift, the grant was named in her honor,” said Debby Dean, clinical oncology social worker at the Cancer Institute.
This funding will support one second-year master’s level student during the 2009-2010 school year.
