UAMS Allied Health College Dean Receives ‘Legacy of Excellence’ Award
| LITTLE ROCK – The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions recently recognized Ronald Winters, Ph.D., dean of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Health Related Professions, for his contributions to the field throughout his career.
Winters received the organization’s Legacy of Excellence Award during its recent annual conference in San Antonio. The organization has 116 member schools of allied health across the nation. The award recognizes career contributions, including being a champion for the allied health professions at a national level.
Winters, dean of the College of Health Related Professions since 1982, received the organization’s President’s Award in 2000 and was recognized as an outstanding member by the group’s board of directors in 1998.
The UAMS College of Health Related Professions encompasses programs in 17 professions from audiology to surgical technology. The college reached a record enrollment of 707 students for the 2009-2010 academic year, including those who are registered in CHRP graduate-level programs through the UAMS Graduate School.
UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a new 540,000-square-foot hospital, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has 2,775 students and 748 medical residents. Its centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.
