July 14, 2010| UAMS’ Senthil K. Pazhanisamy, Ph.D., has earned a Scholars-in-Training Award from the Radiation Research Society and is an invited speaker Sept. 26 at the society’s annual meeting in Hawaii.

The Scholars-in-Training Award was established to recognize junior scientists who have shown the highest potential for a successful career and made significant contributions to the field of radiation research.

Pazhanisamy was among a handful of researchers selected from among 469 submissions to deliver a presentation on his research. His research will be the subject of a mini-symposium at the society’s 56th Annual Meeting in Maui. He also received a $700 travel grant.

Pazhanisamy’s research has focused on the development of novel mechanism-based therapeutic strategies to reduce stem cell injury, leukemia and bone marrow depression like hematological disorders as a result of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

The Radiation Research Society is the international academic body for radiation researchers around the world. The society holds an annual meeting that features contributed, invited lectures and invited symposia from all fields of radiation research.
