Long, who has been at UAMS for the last 20 of his 33-year career in human resources, was honored for service to the organization that represents those working in human resources at institutions of higher education. Long was a charter member of the CUPA-HR Arkansas Chapter when it was formed in 1989. Since then, he has served the organization in virtually every capacity available: president of the Arkansas Chapter from 1994-95; representative to the Southwest Region Board of Directors 1996-2003; and a three-year term on the organization’s national board of directors from 2006-09.

At UAMS, he has been director of recruitment, director of employee relations and director of Human Resources administration before becoming chief human resource officer of the institution in 1998.
