Robin Devan, M.D., Joins UAMS Palliative Care Program
| LITTLE ROCK – Robin Devan, M.D., has joined the Palliative Care Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She sees patients in the second-floor clinics at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and is an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in the UAMS College of Medicine.
Devan is a graduate of the UAMS College of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at UAMS, followed by a fellowship in the UAMS Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program.
Palliative care is the medical specialty focused on improving the quality of life of people facing serious illness, including those with conditions such as chronic pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety and nausea.
Devan’s clinical interests include sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, HIV and cancer. She is specifically interested in addressing health care disparities across Arkansas and in improving advance care planning, symptom management and end of life care.
Before becoming a physician, Devan was the associate director of the Arkansas Humanities Council, where she worked for nine years promoting humanities programs throughout the state, empowering citizens to collect and interpret their own histories, and lobbying the U.S. Congress to continue funding for the arts and humanities.
She has a Master of Arts in public history from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Hendrix College in Conway.
