UAMShealth.com Receives National Awards
| LITTLE ROCK – UAMShealth.com, the clinical programs Web site for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), received gold awards for physician directory, e-business and overall site design at the 14th Annual Healthcare Internet Conference sponsored by greystone.net.
UAMS picked up the three national awards at the 2010 eHealthcare Leadership Awards ceremony in Las Vegas in November.
Nearly 1,300 entries were received from health care organizations of all sizes for the awards that highlight the Internet’s role in achieving an organization’s business objectives.
The UAMShealth.com site debuted in January 2009 with a focus on patient services, including online preregistration, online prescription refills and easy-to-locate information about UAMS physicians and clinics. Since its launch, additional features to the site include links to UAMS’ presence on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The site’s physician directory was redesigned this year and allows patients to search by disease and condition or physician specialty. A physician profile page gives all the basic facts about the doctor and in many cases an extended bio and a profile video.
The site earned e-business kudos for giving patients the ability to connect to UAMS services online, including the ability to pre-register, refill a prescription, check a lab result, pay a bill or donate.
UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Related Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a 540,000-square-foot hospital; a statewide network of regional centers; and six institutes: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. It is the only adult Level 1 trauma center in the state. UAMS has 2,836 students and 761 medical residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees, including nearly 1,150 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS’ Area Health Education Centers throughout the state.
