Rock Town Bacon Throwdown Sept. 20 at War Memorial Stadium
| LITTLE ROCK — Tickets are on sale now for the second annual Rock Town Bacon Throwdown, to be held from 1-4:30 p.m., Sept. 20 at War Memorial Stadium, a competition featuring local professional chefs serving their best bacon creations in a cook-off contest to benefit patients at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center.
Tickets are $30 each and include a sample of each dish, soft drinks/water and a vote in determining the best bacon dish. With purchase of an adult ticket, children 6 and under get in free for games with activities that include a tasting table just for them. Live entertainment will include The Federalis.
Ten local chefs from area restaurants or public venues are already signed up to present dishes revolving around bacon. They include: Scott Rains of Table 28, Elliot Jones of Yaya’s Euro Bistro and chefs from The Fold, Damngoode Pies and even Blue Cake Co. Top honors will be selected by a panel of judges and the “People’s Choice” award will be based on votes from ticketholders.
Buy tickets online via Eventbrite or call the UAMS Volunteer Services office, (501) 686-5656. Proceeds from the event, being hosted by the UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary’s Aux Crew of young professionals, will benefit the UAMS Patient Support Fund, which helps patients, families and support programs at UAMS.
If the Arkansas-Northern Illinois football game is played during the Rock Town Bacon Throwdown, it will be shown live on the stadium’s scoreboard video screens.
“Our Patient Support Fund has been a critical, ongoing source for helping our patients and families,” said Roxane Townsend, M.D., CEO of UAMS Medical Center and vice chancellor for clinical programs. “The Rock Town Bacon Throwdown will be a fun and delicious way to contribute to a good cause.”
