Gath Named Medical Director of UAMS 12th Street Center

By Holland Doran

The student-led center provides information about healthy living, preventive care, consultations and screenings for chronic health conditions to residents of the Little Rock Promise Neighborhood and surrounding areas.

Gath, a clinical associate professor in the UAMS College of Medicine since 2012, also sees patients in the Internal Medicine Clinic at UAMS.

She earned her medical degree from the Centro de Estudios Universitarios Xochicalco in Ensenada, Mexico. She then completed an additional year of clinical education at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

Board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Gath did her internal medicine/pediatrics residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago where she then became associate director of a multidisciplinary, comprehensive, integrated clinic for women and children affected by HIV. During that time she also helped conduct four missions to Romania where she provided HIV education to health care personnel.

In 1994, she became an associate professor at Albany Medical College in New York, and in 2011 she was in a private practice that specialized in women’s health care needs.
