During the promotion, a portion of proceeds from sales at Gwatney Buick GMC were designated for the breast cancer research program at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. The donation was presented Aug. 20 to Cancer Institute Director Peter Emanuel, M.D., by Cancer Institute Foundation board member and Gwatney advertising spokesperson Penny Burkhalter.

“We’re thankful to Gwatney for helping to further our breast cancer research and improve the health of Arkansas’ women,” Emanuel said.

Burkhalter, who is a breast cancer survivor, joined the UAMS Cancer Institute Foundation Board of Directors in July.

“I’m particularly happy this donation will go to breast cancer research. The entire staff of Gwatney Buick GMC was behind this fundraiser 100 percent, and we are all excited to present these funds to the foundation,” Burkhalter said.
