UAMS Resident Elected to National Emergency Medicine Board
| May 4, 2016 | Lauren Bland, M.D., a first-year resident, has been elected to the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors’ (CORD) Board of Directors as its first resident representative.
“We’re proud that Dr. Bland was chosen as a board member for the national organization that sets the standard for Emergency Medicine education across the United States,” said Rawle “Tony” Seupaul, M.D., the Stanley E. Reed Professor and chair of the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine.
“Her appointment is an important milestone in our program’s 33-year history. She represents the vision we have for national recognition and service,” he said.
Bland was one of six candidates from emergency medicine residency programs around the country vying for the newly created resident-member-at-large position.
“It is an honor to get to work with leaders in the academic emergency medicine community,” said Bland, adding that she was “humbled by the opportunity” to be a part of the CORD board.
Bland said she plans to use her position on the board to work to improve resident wellness and the overall environment of residency training.
CORD is a scientific and education organization that works to improve the quality of emergency medicine care by instituting and upholding standards of excellence in emergency training programs.
Bland graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, with a Bachelor of Science in nutrition and dietetics. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa.
In addition to her role with CORD, Bland is a member of the American College of Emergency Medicine and its Arkansas chapter, the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians, the Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association, the American Medical Women’s Society and the Society of American Emergency Medicine.
