Flu Shot Clinics for UAMS Employees and Students

By Yavonda Chase

Flu vaccinations are mandatory for all UAMS employees, non-employees and students. The deadline to receive your vaccination is Nov. 14. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, this is the best strategy to protect the health of our staff and students and the patients and families we serve.

Employees, students and non-employees are encouraged to take advantage of the vaccination clinics, which kicked off Monday, Sept. 17. Vaccinations WILL NOT be available in the Student and Employee Health clinics until Nov. 15.

The list of flu clinics can be found on the Student and Employee Health website. (The calendar will be updated throughout the season, so please check before heading to a vaccination clinic.)

Students and employees must show their UAMS ID Badge to receive the vaccine.

Employees working outside of Pulaski County may receive their vaccine at one of the Regional Centers. Please contact the employee health nurse at your local Regional Centers to arrange for your vaccine.

The deadline to receive your flu immunization and/or provide documentation to Student and Employee Health Services is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

All employees, non-employees and students must display a yellow tag on their badge showing that they received a flu shot. These tags will be given during the vaccination clinics. Those who get their flu shots elsewhere need to bring proof of vaccination to the Student and Employee health clinic to receive their tag.

Compliance with the mandatory flu vaccine policy is a condition for employment at UAMS in accordance with the Administrative Guide Policy.

You may request a medical exemption or a religious exemption, which will be evaluated by our Human Resources and/or Student & Employee Health Office on a case-by-case basis.  A two-page documentation form must be signed by your primary care physician if you are requesting a medical exemption. Religious exemptions are required to be re-submitted annually and will be reviewed by the UAMS Office of Human Resources.

The deadline for requesting an exemption is Wednesday, November 14.

Medical exemptions previously filed with Student Employee Health Services have been reviewed and individuals have been notified if they are required to re-submit an exemption for the 2018-2019 flu season.

Beginning Nov. 15, all employees, students and volunteers must either display a flu-shot tag on their badges or wear a mask. However, employees who do not get the flu shot and are not granted an exemption will be subject to disciplinary measures.
