Kids Can Get Free Fluoride Applications Oct. 24, 25 at Boo at the Zoo
| LITTLE ROCK — Halloween and all of its candy aren’t exactly a celebration of good dental health. But this year, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is planning to help some trick-or-treaters keep their smiles shiny and bright.
UAMS will be providing free fluoride varnish applications to children at Boo at the Zoo from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25 in Café Africa. UAMS students will be on hand to quiz participants on “oral health trivia” as they wait in line.
“Fluoride treatments are such an important way to keep teeth strong and prevent cavities,” said Ashley McMillan, D.D.S., director of the UAMS Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Oral Health Clinic. “I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to help kids and promote good oral health during the Halloween season, which isn’t exactly the most tooth-friendly time of year.”
The fluoride applications are made possible by a grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation. Delta Dental also is providing goodie bags for participants.
“We are thankful to the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation for their support of our efforts to ensure Arkansans have healthy smiles,” said McMillan.
UAMS is the state’s only health sciences university, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a main campus in Little Rock; a Northwest Arkansas regional campus in Fayetteville; a statewide network of regional campuses; and eight institutes: the Winthrop P.
