Gilbert, M.Ed., an assistant professor in the Department of Laboratory Sciences who also serves as director of curriculum and program testing coordinator in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, has taught more than 15 courses for the program, five of which she developed, and has created online versions of all lecture and laboratory courses, said Tina Maddox, Ph.D., associate dean for academic affairs.

Both students and colleagues were effusive in their praise of Gilbert, Maddox said. Students said “she has not only been an excellent teacher, but an essential role model of what it means to be a medical technician.” Colleagues called her a “teacher who has the gift of teaching” who can “light up the classroom with inspiration.”

Robertson, M.Ed., an assistant professor in the Department of Laboratory Sciences, was responsible for planning the centennial celebration of the Medical Laboratory Sciences program at Alumni Weekend in August. Phyllis Fields, M.Ed., associate dean for student affairs, applauded Robertson’s positive, can-do attitude, her passion, her volunteer heart and dedication as she presented her with the service award.

“Cherika is instrumental to the Med Lab Sciences program and to the College of Health Professions,” Fields said.
