Omar T. Atiq, M.D., Named Chair of Board of Governors for American College of Physicians
| Omar T. Atiq, M.D., a UAMS professor of medicine and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, was named chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists.
His term began during Internal Medicine Meeting 2019, ACP’s annual scientific meeting held in Philadelphia from April 11-13.
He has been a Fellow of ACP (FACP) since 1993. FACP is an honorary designation that recognizes ongoing individual service and contributions to the practice of medicine.
Atiq serves on the Arkansas State Medical Board and previously was president of the Arkansas Medical Society. He most recently served a four-year term as governor of the Arkansas Chapter of ACP.
Atiq earned his medical degree from the Khyber Medical College, University of Peshawar, Pakistan. He is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine.
His main areas of professional interest include national health reform, Arkansas health care access, scope of practice, private and community practice, and payment reform.
The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. ACP membership includes 154,000 internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists and medical students.
