“We only seek out the best and brightest candidates annually to join our residency program,” said Mimo Rose Lemdja, M.D., director of the residency program. “We are thrilled that these excellent physicians will be joining our ranks to provide quality health care for the people of south Arkansas.”

Many of the health care providers in south Arkansas were trained at the UAMS Family Medical Center in Magnolia, which provides primary care to patients of all ages and serves seven Arkansas counties: Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Columbia, Dallas, Ouachita and Union. The center offers treatment for both acute issues and chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension and arthritis. In addition to standard primary care, the Family Medical Center offers: gynecology and obstetric services, from annual exams to family planning; medication-assisted treatment for opioid-use disorder; physical exams for sports and treatment for sports injuries; and minor in-office procedures.

“Our collaboration with health care providers in Magnolia is helping us train the next generation of health care leaders for the people of Arkansas,” said Sterling Moore, MBA, vice chancellor for UAMS Regional Campuses. “We are extremely proud of these working relationships because of the excellent learning environments that they provide. We also know that those who complete their training here are more likely to stay and work here. In fact, UAMS ranks third in the nation for retaining the health care providers we train, making UAMS a good investment for the health of Arkansas.”
