Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, presents the February MVP Award to Penny Talbert.

Landscape manager Penny Talbert, who is responsible for keeping the Little Rock campus looking lush and lovely, was nominated because of her work spearheading an after-hours project that will benefit UAMS for years to come while paying tribute to the neighborhood that surrounds us.

Last year, houses that UAMS owned between Pine and Cedar streets on the southeast side of UAMS were demolished to create room for a much needed power plant.

“Before the houses were torn down, Penny had the foresight to collect wrought iron from the houses to make a sculpture to place in an area of campus that has a hard time growing plants. By doing this, UAMS will be able to pay homage to this neighborhood with a sculpture that will be on campus for many years.

This was not in Penny’s job description nor part of her job. But by erecting this sculpture, this neighborhood will be remembered for many years to come. This sculpture shows UAMS’ commitment to the community and to our patients.”

Do you know someone who should be the next MVP? Nominations are being accepted. Any employee can nominate someone, and all employees are eligible to be nominated. The nomination form is available online or paper copies can be picked up in the Office of Communications & Marketing in Ward Tower next to Doc Java.
