Please Be Aware of Political Activity Policy for UAMS Employees, Students
| The Arkansas General Assembly convened into session at the Capitol this week. At the beginning of each session, there are always questions about participation in the legislative process. This is a good time to review the political activity policies for UAMS and the State of Arkansas.
Employees
UAMS respects the rights of all UAMS employees to express opinions on legislation, but we must not present our personal opinions in such a way that they appear to be an official UAMS position.
As UAMS employees, we cannot use our titles, emails, letterhead, logos, symbols, and university-related communications to participate in political activity. Furthermore, it is not permissible to engage in political activities during work hours or with UAMS-issued technology and devices at any time.
Also, please remember that UAMS employees should not wear UAMS badges, white coats or other medical attire that would identify them as being with UAMS when attending legislative committee meetings or sessions and should not represent their opinions as being from UAMS. Contact with elected officials should be coordinated with Maurice Rigsby, vice chancellor for Institutional Relations.

We also need to be mindful that COVID-19 screenings and other measures including limiting attendance at meetings are in effect at the Capitol in accordance with Governor Hutchinson’s directive to prevent the spread of the virus.
