August MVP — Gloria Flowers Williams

By Ben Boulden

Gloria Flowers WilliamsGloria is one of our first lines for a patient complaint – she takes down their information and helps coordinate that message to the correct Patient Relations Coordinator. She listens to angry or upset patients, patients that do not know what to do with questions or lost items – going so far as to pull those lost items (kept in the suite) for our Patient Coordinators.

She also anticipates the needs of the staff she works with, going above and beyond her role expanding to other departments who share the suite to ensure they have what they might need.

I remember one instance that I was completely out of PPE and when I walked into my office a new box was sitting there for me (I had never asked her for a new box). She just thought I might need some soon and thought to do that for me.

Gloria has a hard role of listening to the patients who are unhappy and has to calm them down long enough to get their pertinent information in order for other roles to do their jobs efficiently. She has had several roles here at UAMS and makes sure we all know news and events going on at UAMS. She helps tie departments together. For all of that and more, she deserves our thanks, and MVP. Taking complaints is a thankless job, and she does it with a smile.

UAMS will recognize Gloria in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. She will receive free parking for a month in any of the parking decks and some great UAMS swag. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her later this month. At one of the Chancellor’s cabinet meetings, Gloria will be presented with a certificate and monetary award and honor her and other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.
