April MVP — Tracey Carey
| The MVP for April is Tracey Carey. Tracey is a Registered Nurse in the Women’s Inpatient Unit of the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute. In the course of her work, she puts into practice the UAMS values of being polite, friendly, respectful, thoughtful, optimistic and compassionate.

Here is what her nominator wrote:
“Tracey moved to the Women’s Inpatient Unit within the past year. Since her arrival to the unit, she has brought a positive energy and light that has not only benefitted the patients but also the staff and morale of the entire team.
“Many of the patients that are admitted to the acute psychiatry unit have significant trauma and are struggling emotionally to find hope and purpose. Tracey exemplifies UAMS’ mission to bring hope. She does this in several ways. She treats all of the patients with respect and will comfort them and listen carefully to their concerns. She has taken it upon herself to keep our patients’ bodies moving and has incorporated yoga and exercise groups into their care. She has also developed and encouraged craft ideas to keep their minds busy and creative.
“Tracey is always bringing suggestions to the treatment team in order to make someone’s stay more comfortable and is a strong advocate for her patients. Recently, we had a patient with a serious suicide attempt that could easily be dismissed as personal struggles; however, Tracey was there showing comfort, kindness, and validation to this patient at a very low time. I receive compliments from patients about Tracey’s efforts as a nurse daily, and she is a prime example of going above and beyond.”
UAMS will recognize Tracey in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. She will receive free parking for a month in any of the parking decks. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her, and she will receive some great UAMS swag. At one of the university cabinet meetings, Tracey will be presented with a certificate, given monetary award and honor her and other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.
