UAMS, AFMC Partner to Provide Community Health Worker in Polk County

By David Wise

As an embedded community health worker, Renault is available to answer basic health care questions and provide education and resources to the public. Community health workers work within their communities to help the public get the care they need and answer essential health care-related questions, such as when someone should see a doctor. They also can provide valuable information about vaccines.

“We are so pleased to work with Alexandria to provide the people of Polk County with a new resource as we enter the next, and hopefully final, stage of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Stephanie Kruger, associate director of community programs in the UAMS Office of Community Health & Research. “We’re also excited to work with AFMC and the Polk County community as we work to create a better state of health for all people in Arkansas.”

Renault has a passion for helping others and has experience working as a case investigator for COVID-19 patients and as a coach and counselor at a health treatment facility. Renault is working toward a master’s degree in public health, concentrating on epidemiology, from the University of Arizona.

“Being a community health worker means getting resources — especially reliable information about health care services and COVID-19 — to our community by meeting them where they’re at,” Renault said.
