Nursing Schools Almanac Ranks UAMS College of Nursing Among Top 100 in Nation

By Chris Carmody

The UAMS College of Nursing ranked No. 82 among the 3,000 institutions examined by Nursing Schools Almanac, which places UAMS among the top 3%. Among public nursing schools in the United States, UAMS is listed as No. 44 out of more than 1,800. UAMS was also the only university in Arkansas to make the Top 100.

“The UAMS College of Nursing continues to be recognized for our excellent programs,” said Patricia Cowan, Ph.D., RN, dean of the College of Nursing. “This would not have happened without the faculty’s dedication and commitment to providing quality education to our students.”

Nursing Schools Almanac based its rankings on the institutions’ academic prestige and perceived value; the breadth and depth of nursing programs offered; and the success of students, particularly in their National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) results.

The UAMS College of Nursing educates more than 600 students in its Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.

The College of Nursing graduates at least 100 students each spring, and those students perform strongly on their licensure and certification exams.

UAMS is the state’s only health sciences university, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a main campus in Little Rock; a Northwest Arkansas regional campus in Fayetteville; a statewide network of regional campuses; and eight institutes: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Psychiatric Research Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, Translational Research Institute, Institute for Digital Health & Innovation and the Institute for Community Health Innovation. UAMS includes UAMS Health, a statewide health system that encompasses all of UAMS’ clinical enterprise. UAMS is the only adult Level 1 trauma center in the state. UAMS has 3,275 students, 890 medical residents and fellows, and five dental residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 12,000 employees, including 1,200 physicians who provide care to patients at UAMS, its regional campuses, Arkansas Children’s, the VA Medical Center and Baptist Health.
