August MVP — Melissa Bryan

By Ben Boulden

A patient’s husband called by phone because he wanted to personally tell me about an exceptional employee of mine.  He stated his wife has Alzheimer’s. She was seen in Bone Density for a Bone Scan. He told me that Melissa took the time to patiently explain to his wife what she was doing, as well as help her remove and put her clothes back on. Later that morning he was standing outside the restroom waiting for his wife. Melissa saw him, stopped, and asked if he would like her to check on his wife in the restroom. She then helped his wife until she had finished in the restroom. He commented on Melissa’s professionalism and compassion.

Melissa is frequently mentioned by name in patient satisfaction surveys.  Comments include:

“Melissa was wonderful! She was professional, answered questions and made me feel very comfortable. Great patient experience!”

“Melissa the technician, was courteous, efficient, knowledgeable, and super professional. Hands down, she is an asset to the Bone Density Dept.”

“Melissa who did the test was wonderful. She explained everything and made me very comfortable.”

“The technician, Melissa, was both professional and pleasant.”

Melissa is a true MVP.

We will recognize Melissa in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. She will receive free parking for a month in any of the parking decks. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her, and we’re giving her some great UAMS swag. At one of the chancellor’s cabinet meetings, Melissa will receive a certificate and monetary award and honor her and other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.

Do you know someone who should be the next MVP? If you have someone you’d like to nominate, please visit go.uams.edu/mvp/ and fill out the form.

Please congratulate Melissa for being our MVP of the Month!
