Mohammad Pakravan, M.D., MBA, Joins UAMS Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute
| Mohammad Pakravan, M.D., MBA, has joined the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Pakravan’s medical interests include neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, cataracts, and diseases of the cornea and anterior segment.
“Dr. Pakravan is an internationally renowned expert in neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma,” said Paul Phillips, M.D., Jones Eye Institute director and chair of the UAMS Department of Ophthalmology in the College of Medicine. “His contribution to clinical care, research and education will be a valuable asset to the Jones Eye Institute.”

An associate professor in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, Pakravan joins UAMS from Houston Methodist Hospital’s Blanton Eye Institute, where he was a neuro-ophthalmology fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology.
A Tehran, Iran native, Pakravan earned his medical degree in 1992 from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran and completed his ophthalmology residency there in 1996.
After serving a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Iran University of Medical Sciences in 1998 and a glaucoma fellowship at Shahid Beheshti in 2000, Pakravan served a research/clinical fellowship in glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in 2004.
In 2004, Pakravan joined the ophthalmology faculty at Shahid Beheshti, where he was director of glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology divisions and then educational director of the ophthalmology division. He remained at Shahid Beheshti until 2019.
Pakravan earned his MBA in 2021 from Westcliff University in Irvine, California. He has authored more than 80 journal articles, four book chapters and is a top contributor to EyeWiki, an online reference maintained by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Since 2006, Pakravan has been a regular presenter at various ophthalmology congresses and meetings held worldwide. He is a reviewer for six ophthalmology journals and is a member of the editorial board for the Bina Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research.
