Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, said he is honored to work at UAMS.

“I consider myself so fortunate to come to work every day with so many talented and dedicated team members,” he said. “UAMS is really a special place.”

He told the newspaper that UAMS fosters a collaborative work environment in which anyone “no matter where you are in the organization” can walk up to anyone, including senior leadership, and start a conversation.

He stressed that as a leader, he is committed to keeping channels of communication open.

“We try to have open as many different venues for communication as we possibly can,” he told the Democrat-Gazette. “From in-person town halls to an anonymous email address, we can get candid comments about what we’re doing and how to improve.”

He also told the newspaper that he likes to walk around the campus to interact with employees. “You’d be amazed at what you find out when you take the time to just talk to people,” he said.

UAMS was also a finalist in several categories: Best Hospital, Best Place to Have a Baby, Best Women’s Clinic, Best Vision Care Clinic, Best Pain Care Clinic and Best Hearing Center. C. Lowry Barnes, M.D., was a finalist for Best Orthopedic Surgery, and Timothy D. Langford, M.D., was a finalist for Best Urologist.
