Gynecologic Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist Join UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute

Ruiz is an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the UAMS College of Medicine. She is board certified in gynecologic oncology and obstetrics and gynecology.

Before joining UAMS, she practiced gynecologic oncology for two years at North Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Prior to that, she completed a three-year fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. She was chief resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Missouri Truman Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

Ruiz completed medical school and earned a Master of Science in anatomy at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Minnesota.

She received the 2017 American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists Recognition of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Award and the 2018 Obstetrics & Gynecology Roy M. Pitkin Award.

Mausam A. Patel, M.D., is treating patients at the UAMS Baptist Health Radiation Therapy Clinic that is part of the UAMS Baptist Health Cancer Center at Baptist Health Springhill Medical Plaza in North Little Rock. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine.

Patel received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2016, followed by an internship at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida, and a residency in radiology at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savanna, Georgia. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at UAMS.

Patel conducts research in cancer epidemiology and survival, which has been featured at national cancer conferences, including the American Society for Radiation Oncology, National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
