Radiation Oncologist Ciani Ellison, M.D., Joins UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute
| Ciani Ellison, M.D., a radiation oncologist specializing in the treatment of pediatric cancers has joined the Radiation Oncology Center at the Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. She is one of only two pediatric radiation oncologists in Arkansas, both at UAMS.
Ellison also treats adult patients with gynecologic cancers, soft tissue sarcomas and lymphoma/leukemia.
“Dr. Ellison is a great addition to our team with her expertise in treating children’s cancers, including blood cancers and soft tissue sarcomas, and gynecological cancers in adults,” said Fen Xia, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UAMS Radiation Oncology Center and chair of the UAMS Department of Radiation Oncology.
An Arkansas native, Ellison is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, where she was a member of the U.S. Air Force Parachute Team and received a bachelor’s degree in biology. She earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She remained at the Medical College of Wisconsin for both her internship in internal medicine and completion of her residency in radiation oncology, where she served as chief resident.
Ellison sees patients with all cancer types at the UAMS Radiation Oncology Center,
which houses the new Proton Center of Arkansas. The Proton Center is a collaboration of UAMS, Arkansas Children’s, Baptist Health and Proton International. It is the first proton center in the state of Arkansas and can provide more advanced, targeted and precise radiation therapy for children and adults with solid tumors.
Ellison also serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine.
