2024 Career Fair Connects Pharmacy Students with 16 Community Employers

The event, held at the Myers Student Pavilion at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, allows current pharmacy students the chance to network with other members of their profession. It’s a way to reach across disciplines and find a potential landing spot for their budding careers.

Sixteen employers were on hand this year: Arkansas Children’s, ARcare, Ashford Advisors, Baptist Health, Baxter Regional Medical Center, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, Christus Health, CVS Health, Economy Drug, Freedom Pharmacy, Harps Pharmacy, iCareRxPharmacy/Gammel’s Clinic Pharmacy, Kroger, St. Bernards Regional Medical Center, Walgreens and Walmart/Sam’s Club Stores Inc.

“This was a successful networking event for our Class of 2024 students,” said Ashok Philip, Ph.D., associate dean of student services. “There were representatives from employers across Arkansas, which is reflective of the deep roots of our profession here in Arkansas.”

Students mingled with employers at each booth and learned about various career options. As they made new connections, students were given additional information to take home.

For some students still unsure about their path after graduation, the event is a way to help narrow their options down and find the right fit.

“It gives us an opportunity to see multiple different fields of pharmacy and the possibilities that are available once we graduate,” said fourth-year student Whitney Austin. “For me, I was able to talk to the residency program I matched to and further reinforce my decision to continue my education and career with that program.”

“What I liked most was getting to meet so many different employers across the state,” said fourth-year student Alexa Ramick. “It’s really convenient that the school sets up something like this for us, so we don’t have to spend extra time outside of everything we do in the last year to also find a job. Even that small 15-minute interaction gives us the ability to feel out a job or see what might be out there for us after we graduate.”
