Subaru of Little Rock delivered 80 blankets and 30 patient care kits to the UAMS Patient Support Pavilion on July 8 as part of its Subaru Loves To Care initiative. Subaru, in partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, works with local hospitals and cancer treatment centers throughout the United States to aid blood cancer patients and families.

“Subaru is known for their charitable initiatives,” said Cesar Gentille, M.D., a hematologist/oncologist with the Cancer Institute and an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. “We offer our heartfelt appreciation to Subaru of Little Rock and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for their commitment to helping blood cancer patients at UAMS.”

Subaru of Little Rock received the 2024 Subaru Love Promise Customer and Community Commitment Award, which recognizes Subaru retailers who provide exceptional customer service and who demonstrate superior commitment to their communities.

“It’s special for us to be a part of this,” said Mike Wilson, Subaru of Little Rock’s general manager. “It’s great for us to give back to the community.”

This is the sixth year that Subaru of Little Rock has made donations to UAMS. Subaru and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society have supported nearly 350,000 blood cancer patients nationwide.

Gentille acknowledged the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s contributions to UAMS.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has donated more than $684,000 in financial assistance to UAMS blood cancer patients so far this year,” he said.

Arkansas Leukemia & Lymphoma Society campaign development manager Phyllis Lovelace expressed her appreciation and support for the program.

“This is awesome,” she said. “A blanket sounds like a simple thing, but it’s really great that Subaru does this for blood cancer patients. We appreciate the partnership between the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Subaru and UAMS.”

“These blankets not only provide warmth and physical comfort to our patients, but they also give reassurance that others are thinking about them,” Gentille said.
