Gili G. Halfteck, M.D., Ph.D., and Sandra M. Garcia-Osogobio, M.D.
Breast, Endocrine and Colorectal Cancer Surgeons Join UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute
| Gili G. Halfteck, M.D., Ph.D., and Sandra M. Garcia-Osogobio, M.D., have joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute as breast, endocrine and colorectal cancer surgeons.
Both also serve as assistant professors in the Division of Surgical Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Surgery.
Halfteck is a breast and endocrine cancer surgeon who comes to UAMS from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery. Endocrine cancers include those of the thyroid, pancreas, adrenal gland and pituitary glands. Prior to that, she completed breast surgical oncology fellowships at the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Halfteck completed a residency in general surgery at the Shaare Zedeck Medical Center in Jerusalem, where she was an attending breast surgeon in the Department of General Surgery. She earned a medical degree and doctoral degree in molecular biology and tumor immunology from the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School’s joint M.D./Ph.D. program., where she graduated summa cum laude.
Garcia-Osogobio, M.D., is a colorectal cancer surgeon who joins UAMS from St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Ontario, Canada, where she completed fellowships in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery and general surgery through McMaster University. Prior to that, she served as assistant professor of surgery at the National Institute of Medical Sciences Salvador Zubirán in Mexico City.
She received her medical degree from the Universidad Popular Autonóma el Estado de Puebla in Puebla, Mexico. In 2008, Garcia-Osogobio was certified as a member of the Royal College and Surgeons of Canada. She is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
