Jennifer Vincenzo Receives ‘Award of Excellence for Service to the Community or Institution’

By Ben Boulden

She is an associate professor of physical therapy in the College of Health Professions. Her nomination included numerous examples of service to her students, to the community, to this institution and to her profession of physical therapy. This included mentorship work and curriculum development, being certified as an Interprofessional Education facilitator and serving as a judge for UAMS Student Research Day.

She has been a grant reviewer and one of five facilitators for the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research. She served the state through an appointment to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging — including chairing that group from 2021-2023. Nationally, she has worked in various professional organizations, from the National Council on Aging to the National Council on Fall Risk Awareness and Prevention. In 2020, she received the President’s Award from the American Physical Therapy Association in Geriatrics for work on a Falls Prevention Toolkit.

The 2024 Chancellor’s Awards of Excellence were awarded to five UAMS faculty members, including Vincenzo, for their accomplishments in educational innovation, clinical innovation, scholarship, service, and mentorship/coaching.

These awards replaced the former Chancellor’s Teaching Awards that were presented during UAMS Commencement. The awards expanded from two categories to five to more fully encompass faculty excellence in all elements of the academic mission.
