MVP for April — Betty Proffitt
| Meet Betty Proffitt, the MVP for April. Betty serves UAMS as a respiratory NICU coordinator. In the course of her work, she puts into practice the UAMS culture of being polite, friendly, respectful, thoughtful, optimistic and compassionate. Please read what her nominator wrote about how she does that:
Betty has worked in the Department of Respiratory Care for over 30 years and is the respiratory care NICU coordinator. She plays a pivotal role in ensuring our neonates can breathe and thrive. In neonatal care, respiratory therapists act as vigilant guardians from the very beginning, employing their expertise to ensure early identification and assessment of respiratory issues in premature infants. Betty consistently demonstrates exceptional work by responding to high-risk deliveries including infants born before 32 weeks gestation, infants with serious congenital defects and infants who need respiratory assistance upon delivery.
Betty has a servant’s heart and demonstrates outstanding service with a positive and supportive attitude. She is consistently dependable and is always available by phone or pager even after work. Sometimes after working 50+ hours she will still come in to work the night shift if they are short-staffed. Betty leads by example to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
UAMS will recognize Betty in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. She will receive free parking for a month in any of the parking decks. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her, and the university is giving her some great UAMS swag. At one of the chancellor’s cabinet meetings, Betty will receive a certificate and monetary award. She also will be honored along with other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.
