UAMS Names Brian Gittens, Ed.D., MPA, Vice Chancellor of the Division of People and Culture
| The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has named Brian Gittens, Ed.D., MPA, the vice chancellor for the Division of People and Culture, effective June 16.
Gittens has been serving as interim vice chancellor since March 14, while continuing to lead the Division for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships.
“With more than 11,000 employees, UAMS absolutely needs strong leadership in our Division of People and Culture, which I know Brian will provide,” said Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, UAMS chancellor and CEO of UAMS Health. “I am grateful to Brian for serving as interim and for agreeing to assume this position full-time.”
Gittens is a human resource professional, researcher and educator with more than 35 years of operational and administrative experience. He specializes in organizational and leadership development, organizational assessment and analysis, change management and talent management in support of optimizing organizational performance and quality initiatives.
He came to UAMS in 2019 from the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was associate dean for Human Resources. He has held positions at universities across the country working on programs dealing with community engagement and cultural competency initiatives. He is a Marine Corps veteran.
Gittens received his doctorate from the George Washington University and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Tech. He is a certified senior professional of Human Resources.
