Erin Jefferson, M.D., Joins UAMS to Lead Women’s Mental Health Clinic in NWA

| FAYETTEVILLE — Erin Jefferson, M.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to establish the Women’s Mental Health Program, Northwest Arkansas’s first specialized clinic dedicated to perinatal mental health.

Jefferson, a 2020 graduate of the UAMS College of Medicine who completed her psychiatry residency there, served as the inaugural Women’s Mental Health Fellow at the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute in Little Rock.

Jefferson is the first fellowship-trained physician in Northwest Arkansas to focus solely on the psychiatric needs of women in their reproductive years. The Women’s Mental Health Program serves women throughout their reproductive journey — from preconception through the first postpartum year — providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and other psychiatric conditions that can emerge during this critical period.
