Arkansas Trauma Rehabilitation Symposium Set for Sept. 19

Hosted by the UAMS Institute for Digital Health & Innovation Brain Injury Program, the event will be held at the Benton Event Center, 17322 I-30, in Benton.

“Our goal with this symposium is to empower health care providers and improve outcomes for survivors of trauma,” said Brandi Dawson, M.S., health educator with the Brain Injury Program. “Our 2025 theme, ‘Pay It Forward,’ reflects our commitment to fostering real-world impact, sustained collaboration and meaningful outcomes for those we serve.”

Yelena G. Bodien, Ph.D., a clinical neuroscientist and assistant professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Division of Acute Care Surgery, will present the morning keynote lecture, “Evidence-based Paradigm Shifts in the Care of Patients with Disorders of Consciousness: Lessons from the Past and a Roadmap for the Future.”

Jeff Glasbrenner, a Paralympian, wheelchair basketball world champion and the first American amputee to summit Mount Everest, will present the afternoon keynote address, “The Gift of a Day.”

Additional sessions include the importance of advocacy and community engagement after brain injury, an emerging research roundtable and a look at assistive technology in pediatrics.
