College of Pharmacy Recognizes 148 Students with Scholarships, Awards
| Nearly 150 students in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) College of Pharmacy received awards and scholarships at separate ceremonies held Sept. 19 in Little Rock and Sept. 22 in Fayetteville. Each year, the college recognizes students for their hard work and donors for their contributions and commitment to the college.

“Every year, thanks to the generosity of our donors in the College of Pharmacy, we have the privilege of awarding scholarships and honors to our students,” said Brendan Frett, Ph.D., assistant professor and chair of the College of Pharmacy Awards Committee. “This tradition continues to grow as we expand the number of scholarships and awards offered each year, creating new opportunities that strengthen our impact and support within the pharmacy community. Students, today we celebrate each of you for your outstanding achievements.”
Donor contributions through scholarships and awards help pharmacy students continue their education and provide financial assistance during their time in school. Students fulfill various criteria to be considered for scholarships, including submitting applications and letters of recommendation, writing essays and meeting in-person with the awards committee.
“Today we come together to celebrate achievement, generosity and potential,” said Dean Cindy Stowe, Pharm.D., as she congratulated the 148 students being honored and thanked the college’s donors, faculty and staff. “As we honor excellence this afternoon, may we also celebrate the shared spirit that makes the UAMS College of Pharmacy a place where talent is nurtured, curiosity is encouraged and generosity thrives.”
This year’s awards totaled more than $600,000 in support, Stowe said. Funds were split between $175,000 for state-funded scholarships, $170,000 from college donors, $165,000 from the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy and $95,000 from the College of Pharmacy and faculty members.

“These numbers tell an extraordinary story,” Stowe said. “People believe in the promise of our students and the impact pharmacists have on the health of Arkansans and their communities.”
Hayden Hyman, Pharm.D., Class of 2025, received the USA Drug Employees Endowed Scholarship last year and spoke to the students about the lasting impact that scholarships have.
“Of course, the financial support was an incredible help — it eased the weight of tuition and allowed me to put more time and energy into my education,” Hyman said. “For me, it went beyond that. It reminded me that there are people and organizations who truly believe in supporting students, and who see value in investing in the future of pharmacy. That message of encouragement has stayed with me.”
In addition to student recognition, each year during the awards ceremony a faculty member is recognized with the Wolfe Faculty Excellence Award. This year the honor went to Amanda Stolarz, Pharm.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences.
