UAMS Pharmacy Clinical Services Named 2025 Immunization Champions

ImmunizeAR, which is a part of the Arkansas Immunization Action Coalition, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving vaccination rates for all Arkansans through education, advocacy and statewide partnerships. Each year, they recognize the impactful work of health care professionals in preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.

This year’s award recognizes those who go above and beyond to protect adult populations. The Clinical Services Team, led by Laken Jones, Pharm.D., and Sara Cox, Pharm.D. in the UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy, was selected for its sustained efforts over the past three years to expand access to vaccines, reduce barriers to care and support state public health initiatives.

“Laken and Sara have done an outstanding job promoting our services to patients and employees across campus,” said Layton Kelley, Pharm.D., associate chief pharmacy officer for UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy and clinical assistant professor in the UAMS College of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacy Practice. “This award is a product of their dedication to our mission and is well deserved.”

“Our Clinical Services Team has significantly enhanced patient care and outcomes by leading vaccine clinics, delivering comprehensive medication therapy management services, completing prior authorizations and obtaining financial assistance to improve access for a wide range of medications,” said Brett Hawkins, Pharm.D., assistant director for UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy Operations.

Jones said the team has worked closely with UAMS providers to integrate immunization services into routine patient care, ensuring that vaccines are accessible, efficient and patient-centered. This coordination has helped make immunizations a seamless part of adult patient care. The team also assists in immunizing UAMS employees to ensure a safer health care environment.
