Becky Smith, MVP for February 2026
Becky Smith
| Meet Becky Smith, the university’s MVP for February and a pharmacy specialist for UAMS Health.
In the course of her work, she puts into practice the UAMS culture of being polite, friendly, respectful, thoughtful, optimistic and compassionate. Here’s what her nominator wrote about how she does that.
Becky Smith consistently exemplifies clinical excellence, teamwork, and humanity. Over the past several months, she has filled in on SICU rounds during a colleague’s maternity leave amid extremely high census and acuity. She has been indispensable on rounds, proactively managing medication orders, supporting resident education and ICU acclimation, and remaining readily available to floor teams nearly seven days a week, often answering medication questions from home. Her clinical impact is substantial, and her absence is immediately felt. What truly distinguishes her is an act of compassion that went far beyond her role. While rounding on a particularly demanding day, our team passed a woman sitting alone on the hospital floor near the E4 entrance, quietly crying, as a nearby team was actively coding a patient. Later, Becky had left the area. She had returned to sit with the woman after recognizing she was grieving. The patient being coded was the woman’s best friend. Becky sat on the floor beside her, listening and offering comfort, ensuring she was not alone. When later praised, Becky simply said, “No one should be alone while their best friend is dying.” That moment captures who Becky is—an exceptional pharmacist and an extraordinary human being.
UAMS will recognize Smith in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her, and UAMS will honor her and other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.
