Behind the Scenes
| Majid Asgari, Ph.D.
Majid Asgari, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. He earned his doctorate in medical biotechnology from the Pasteur Institute of Iran in 2021 and joined the UAMS Myeloma Center in 2024 in the lab of research director Fenghuang “Frank” Zhan, M.D., Ph.D.
His research focus is on developing vaccines as an immunotherapy approach that can be administered to myeloma patients during various stages of the disease, with the goal of stopping or slowing disease progression by enhancing anti-tumor immune response.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at Arak University in Iran and his master’s degree in medical parasitology at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran.
Yamin Meng, Ph.D.
Yamin Meng, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. She earned her doctorate in microbiology and molecular biology from Zhejiang University in China in 2021 and joined the UAMS Myeloma Center in 2024 in the lab of research director Fenghuang “Frank” Zhan, M.D, Ph.D.
Her research focuses on investigating and developing novel cancer immunotherapies to enhance chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy in multiple myeloma. One strategy is improving myeloma cell response to the B-cell Maturation Agent (BCMA)-CAR T cells in which also release mutant CST6 proteins. High expression levels of CST6 inhibit osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption in myeloma patients.
Meng earned her bachelor’s degree in biological science from Shandong Normal University in China.
