Maddy Mahon

By News Staff

In the course of her work, she puts into practice the UAMS culture of being polite, friendly, respectful, thoughtful, optimistic and compassionate. Read what her nominator said:

Madeline (Maddy) Mahon exemplifies the mission of UAMS through exceptional patient advocacy, clinical expertise, and perseverance. She recently went above and beyond to secure droxidopa—an uncommon, difficult-to-obtain medication—for a critically ill inpatient with severe coronary microvascular dysfunction and chronic hypotension. Rather than allowing medication access barriers to delay care, Maddy relentlessly coordinated efforts to ensure the patient received this life-changing therapy. Her work produced remarkable results. According to the treating provider, initiation of droxidopa significantly improved the patient’s blood pressure, increased exercise tolerance, shortened the ICU stay, and prevented hospital readmission. The patient, who had previously sustained a hip fracture related to hypotension, is now thriving. These efforts far exceeded the expectations of her role. Maddy proactively navigated complex medication access challenges, collaborated seamlessly with the multidisciplinary team, and remained steadfast in advocating for her patient until treatment was secured. Her extraordinary commitment transformed a patient’s recovery while improving outcomes and resource utilization, making her exceptionally deserving of the UAMS MVP Award.

UAMS will recognize Maddy in several ways as this month’s MVP. Look for her photo on the Employee Appreciation Wall outside the Chancellor’s Suite in the Central Building. A Faces of UAMS video will feature her, and UAMS will honor her and other awardees at the year-end MVP luncheon.
